PW = Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women (PW) is organized at all levels of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) – Congregation, Presbytery, Synod and Church-wide. A circle is a small group of women with a shared interest in Bible study, prayer, community building and mission-related activities. PW values the individual and builds an inclusive community of women that strengthen the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to God’s Kingdom. Circles at FPC meet monthly or bi-weekly (September – May) at times/places agreed to by the members. All women of the church are invited to join a circle.
The PW Mission Pledge supports the mission and ministry work for each program area of PW – leadership enhancement, mission partnerships and projects, publishing, justice and peace and ministry to women, children and families. Mission Pledge funds underpin the operating budgets of Presbyterian Women at all levels. The Mission Pledge creates programs, resources, scholarships, and events for the denomination and PW. Every facet of PW is, in some way, supported by the gifts women provide through their celebration of mission; it is the “glue” that holds PW together.
A locally sponsored program is Days for Girls, a ministry to provide lasting feminine hygiene supplies to girls and women. Other programs we support include Thornwell Home, Duvall Home, Church World Service, Mission Haven, Columbia Seminary, St. Francis House, Ronald McDonald House, Migrant Workers, ESL at First Presbyterian, Dresses for Africa, Christian Women United, and Gainesville Family Promise.
